My efforts blessed with a cute smile that is frozen forever

Around 10 months ago we were blessed with a little angel. The first time , doctors called me to see her I could believe it. It was the best thing that ever happened to us. From my childhood, I have loved kids. But never thought of the moment when our kid will be born. So when our little angel's first glimpse arrived, I just could not control myself. The emotions were not controllable and people around me had become invisible.

I never wanted to wake up from this moment but when the baby cried , I just woke up. The doctors were trying to play with her seeing my uncontrollable emotions. As I thought that this moment should have never ended, I realized that is upto me to make each upcoming moment more memorable as parenthood experience progressed.

Unfortunately the work commitment gave me only weekends to play with her. But most of the time, I was heavily dependent on my better half to manage any activities of the baby. I felt low since I realized many a times that the baby was not comfortable with me. But with the support of better half , I kept trying.

Finally on this day, I was not only able to give the baby a good bath but also had a chance to decorate her. My each moment and action, made the baby smile. This smile just wiped out all the nervousness that I had and I guess the bonding increased. When I saw the phone , I just picked up the phone and clicked the selfie. This moment has just not only captured the joyful moment but thought me that parenting is blissful experience

First Smiling Selfie

Selfie experience do capture rare moments many a times but for me this moment is frozen and i am thankful to the almighty. For me this smiling picture of baby (We call our angel 'Amaira') is one of those moments when i successfully graduated from parenting 101 with minimal support from my better half

My struggles to travel abroad as a student for pursuing P.Hd #DefinitelyPTE

Image Credit : MS Word 2010 Clip Art

Going abroad for tourism, job offer or further studies are seen as a growing trend among many aspiring individuals. These could be attributed to the vast influence of globalization, internet, social media, movies, and the growing importance of international experience. The experience of visiting abroad as a tourist/s is much different than working or studying.  There lays huge set of challenges that one needs to be prepared for or when encountered. The set of challenges or hurdles may vary depending on whether you are a student or working professional.

However when we talk about pursuing studies abroad, it requires meticulous planning keeping in mind we would be miles away from our motherland and family.

When I was planning to move abroad for further studies, one of the initial hurdles that I faced was lack of awareness of how to go about starting visa processing, funding options/ agencies, accommodation, food etc as I come from a small state and we did not have good internet connectivity those days.

I had no clue as we did not have the exposure to career fairs, career talks or other information from country specific organizations e.g. British Council, Goethe institute (Germany), Alliance Francaise (France). These organizations in collaboration with universities (local universities in state & foreign universities) could provide useful first-hand information on the universities, language courses and other criteria or requirements for the same. These organizations are mostly located in metro cities and they regularly organize events. This gives way to enhance student exchange programs or cross collaborative programs among the two countries.

One of the common requirements for many universities abroad is the English proficiency course for which I gave my IELTS and Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE academic#DefinitelyPTE  exam in Bangalore. Though PTE has many centers across india, i choose bangalore since all tests centers were available here and i found lot of friends with similar aspiration. Collaboration became easier.

PTE academic test was accepted in some of the colleges i had shortlisted for applications such as : The University of Southern Queensland - Sydney Education Centre, University of Applied Sciences Frankfurt, Cambridge Education Group, Buckinghamshire New University and Florida State University

For PTE Preparation Course, i relied on the official online practice materials to fasten my preparations. This sample questions not only familiarized me with exams but also were less stressful compared to other exams where free prep material was not available. Any savings which will not impact the final outcome is a blessing on disguise when running on a tight budget

My seniors recommended me to have as complete as many tests as i can do , since proficiency in multiple English test which are accepted across the world will only increase the trust global universities, colleges and governments have on my candidature (since the competition was high and the Asian pool was very competitive)

I also pursued a German language course to learn basic language skills to prepare myself for day-to-day interactions in the supermarket, peers, immigration office, travel etc. Generally, the international office at universities abroad are the first point of contact as they primarily help in finding accommodation, residence permit, and other requirements. But it is always advisable to find other students who are currently studying or working in the area.

A genuine interest to study abroad is the utmost and an important factor that needs to arise from the individual. The individual needs to confirm, his/her area of study that includes the subject, country, colleges etc. The best could be to draw a plan and google basic information. The university websites generally host all the course related information and various application requirements on their website. The individual is expected to make a thorough study by reading their website and then followed by the potential interaction with the graduate student office/faculty for any specific queries or discuss projects. The student is also expected to write a basic research proposal in line with departmental research interests and strengths.

While preparing your applications, personalize your cover letters to address the specific requirements of the course of study or job. Ironically as a post-doc, I served as one of the coordinator for the same master program in neuroscience that I took after moving to Germany. It is essential to personalize your cover letter. Universities which are accepting international students receive a lot of applications all over the world. It is difficult for the committee members to judge and rate the applicants based on their grades because the scoring system varies from country to country. Thus your cover letter is very essential. It should emphasize your strengths relevant to the course. You would need academic transcripts from the registrar office which gives details of the grades and the scoring system.

One could also check for funding options available for the universities through organizations such as DAAD (Germany), British council (UK), Alliance Francaise (France) or by sending queries to international office of respective universities. The international offices can generally guide students about the monthly expenses required, visa categories etc or the information is available on their website. Last but not the least food could be a hurdle if you are a fussy eater.

Having learnt all those experience as a student, today I have become a confident global citizen who does not hesitate from travel. With the world becoming so small due to digital connection, the challenges today are verifying the authencity of information.  Anyways if you need help, do leave a comment. will be happy to answer any questions.

Save water before it becomes a exhibit in Museum and National Parks #CuttingPaani

In the holy town of Haridh, there lived a boy kitu with this father. Kitu had lost most of this family to water born disease during an epidemic that occurred in this village. The river from which the water was sourced was contaminated by a disease and before government authorities could act many people lost their lives.

Today the villages with the government have taken precaution. Also the ladies do not have to travel with pots on their head to fetch drinkable water. Rather the government has provided taps in the holy city so the water is delivered at home.

Kitu loved water the most since most of his childhood stories where either revolved around water or his maximum time spent with his mother was when she was doing household work near river.

Kitu’s parents had instilled a strong thought him in that ‘the future is a reflection of actions that we take today’. So when kitu saw people in his village abusing water, he used to feel very devastated.

Though in his school, it was told to him clearly that ‘As access to drinkable water becomes an ever-increasing worldwide encounter, all humans have an chance to be the most powerful game-changers in safeguarding water for upcoming groups”

He spent many days and hours to tell everybody to take care of water but no one cared. His friends in the class also seem to have ignored his plea to join him in educating adults in the village. With the help of his teacher, he showed villagers different ways of saving water like turning the tap off during bathing or washing clothes. But people didn't care.

Couple of months later, on a hot summer morning, kitu woke up and discovered that there was no water! As he stepped out, he noticed all the villagers were distraught with the fact there was no water to drink, to wash or do any other tasks. On one hand , he had a joy that people will now realize the importance of water but he was also worried now what will happen.

All of us were very scared. People of the village started arriving at hour home and wondered if I had any idea on how the water can come back. Kitu enlightened and repeated how important it is to save water and everyone in the village need to take care of it. Having no water for their everyday events convinced all the villages on what kitu had always tried to communicate to them.

Everyone wondered now what. With the help of government and nearby villages, drinking water arrived next day. Some doctors also advised people to take pills so that the need to drink water will disappear. At first people laughed at this idea, but as days passed the pills seemed to have become a death saving medicine.

My dad suggested to all the villagers that we should perform pooja to appease Indra who is the god of rains. I remember he telling me that the 'The law of karma which recommends that with divine intervention through prayers, rituals, and good deeds, it is possible to appease gods'. People seemed to have caught this new fad of appeasing gods. I could see many rituals performed in the village to appease gods. All the god were being requested to shower their blessings in the form of rains.

Eventually the rain gods did turn up and people got for the first time the taste of fresh water. Today the volume of water in the village has increased and our village has become the brand ambassador of water saving.

All of us have a Kitu inside us. Do not ignore the consciousness that Kitu had. Otherwise it will too late before any corrective action could be implemented for #CuttingPaani as it has happened with many inhabitant of the dear earth who have forever left us

Chapter 1 - Why Vitamin E became part of my life

Myself : As a kid i had lot of problems with dandruff.  This problem stopped me from wearing favorite black color shirts . My friends also misbehaved and it was impacting my confidence a lot. But apart from this external troubles,  itching caused by the dandruff was more painful. I was making a fool of myself.  The doctor we consulted tried lot of medicines.  But the most effective solution was Vitamin E oil that helped reduced the itching and scaling a lot. Though the problem of dandruff has reduced a lot since then but i can never forget the moment when i stopped scratching my scalp in public places with the help of this oil.   You will always find this oil in my kit and my family knows the important help this oil has provided me till date

Family:I have been very close to my grandfather. But when he started aging he had the problem of forgetting and loss of vision. In his last year, he had even hard time remembering who i was. Doctors called it Alzheimer disease. When my grandmother died she also had  a similar problem. But it never bothered me since i was small. But my parents had become strong with this experience of grandmother. So when i got impacted due to my grand father illness my dad controlled me and used to tell me his learning's from the past. We could not help much but i was at-least getting consoled. So when i heard that Vitamin E can slow down progression of Alzheimer disease, i had a heartful satisfaction that many children in this world will hopefully not have go through the pain of loosing their close family member due to Alzeimer disease.
